Pallet Projects
With the cost of lumber on the rise, having a few wood shipping pallets on-hand can help you to save money and the environment. Who doesn’t love a good upcycle DIY project!?
If you don’t already have pallets, these are a common way to transport heavy items. Just take a peek down the back side of your local strip mall and there are bound to be pallets looking for a new home. Always get permission from an owner/manager prior to picking up pallets from private property. Here are some common places where you can find free wooden pallets:
Hardware stores
Liquor stores
Construction sites
Sporting goods stores
Schools
Retail stores
My pallets were taken with permission from a large local area employer. They literally had piles of pallets out by the trash bins. It took me two trips to pack as many as I could into my Subaru. The main reason for the haul was to use these pallets as the base for a small wooden deck around my stock tank pool. When I realized I had leftovers, the upcycle ideas started flowing!
Here are a few quick and inexpensive projects you can do with left over pallets:
1) Wood Pallet Kitchen Sink Outdoor Beverage Station
If you have everything, and a kitchen sink lying around your yard, why not make something with those scraps!?
You can create this with a single left over pallet cut in half. When cutting you’ll want to make sure that the “legs” on the front and back are equal length so that your station won’t wobble. If you need a little bit more guidance on how to create your beverage station, Remodleaholic has step by step instructions on her site. For extra flair, add a bottle opener or a light up Cheers sign.
